What is Framo AquaStream
The Framo AquaStream system recreates natural current conditions and exchanges water in existing pens with lice skirts.
Why optimize the environment in the pen?
The lice skirt is important in open pens, but at the same time reduces the water flow in the cage. With less water exchange and less oxygen, water quality deteriorates. This affects both fish health and fish welfare. With the Framo AquaStream, large amounts of fresh seawater are pumped up from under the algae and lice belt.
When AquaStream creates more currents in the cage, the fish become more active and develops a better appetite. This fundamentally improves fish health, growth, and quality. It's about having full control - and Framo delivers complete systems consisting of pumps, control systems, emergency systems and digital monitoring.

Framo pump technology is the very heart of the systems
Pumps are the heart of all Framo products. That’s why we have developed unique pumping systems for aquaculture that can be used for water circulation, feedwater, sludge treatment, etc. Pumps and power units are designed for submerged installation.
One of Framo's key principles is that everything we deliver must be fully scaled and tested. This also applies to the pumping systems for aquaculture. It ensures that the installation works as expected from day one.
Strong Results with Framo AquaStream
Framo's AquaStream pump system has contributed to strong results in Northern Lights Salmon's OptiCage system in Ystevika in Grovfjord in South Troms.
Results so far show that the fish have grown well. There is also good fish welfare and low, stable lice numbers on both spring and autumn fish, says project manager Christian Balteskard at Northern Lights Salmon.
