After 20 years at Framo, Miles Duo traded bustling Shanghai for the tranquil life in Fusa, ready for new challenges and life in the heart of rural Norway.
In March, Miles Duo took a big step when he moved from China to Norway to become a project manager at Framo Fusa. After nearly two decades at Framo Shanghai, he seized the opportunity to embrace new challenges—this time in the heart of Norway’s natural beauty.
From Shanghai to Fusa
Miles began his journey with Framo Shanghai in 2004. With a background in thermal energy and power engineering from the University of Shanghai, he has held various roles over the years, including field engineer, sales project manager, and later, sales manager.
Having visited Norway several times for work, Miles dreamed of moving there. When a position opened up in Fusa, he was ready to swap the metropolis of Shanghai for the Norwegian countryside.
Balancing Work and Leisure
For Miles, the transition to Norway has been overwhelmingly positive. He appreciates the Norwegian work culture, which allows for more time for leisure and activities. Alongside his colleagues at Framo, he has taken part in mountain hikes with the company’s trekking group, participated in the Stoltzen climb with the corporate sports team, and joined several social gatherings to get to know his coworkers better outside of work. Soon, he’ll be attending the Christmas lunch and holiday party.
Framo has been more than just a workplace for Miles—it has been a platform for personal and professional growth. Now, he is ready to write the next chapter of his life in Fusa.
“As long as you have an open mind, nothing should be difficult. However, there will be some cultural shock, and despite most Norwegians speaking excellent English, Norwegian is still the dominant language they use.”
Miles notes that modern technology and helpful apps make the transition easier, even though Bergen’s famous rain takes some getting used to. His advice is clear:
“Stepping out of your comfort zone is never as daunting as you think.”
